Payments And Royalties
Payments & Royalties
Last updated: July 14, 2026
What counts toward creator royalties, what can change the amount, and when payouts happen.
The Short Version
Readers buy Coins.
They use Coins inside Noveltree to unlock eligible chapters, unlock full works, send Stickers, or use other platform features.
Creators do not receive reader payments, Coins, or Stickers directly.
When eligible reader activity happens in connection with a creator's work, it can count toward royalties. Noveltree calculates those royalties under the Creator Terms.
What Counts
Royalties may be calculated from eligible activity such as:
- chapter access
- full-work access
- eligible Sticker-associated activity
Stickers are expressive platform items, not direct payments. Sending a Sticker does not send money, Coins, stored value, or a tip to a creator.
How Coins Count
Coins are the in-app way readers access paid Noveltree features.
Current Paid Access Royalty Rate — Effective July 14, 2026
For this schedule, a "Royalty-Eligible Access Unit" means one Paid Coin, Promotional Coin, or Creator Consumable Credit consumed for eligible chapter or full-work access that has not been excluded or reversed under the Creator Terms.
Under the current schedule, Estimated Copyright Royalties for eligible chapter and full-work access are calculated at USD $0.01 for each Royalty-Eligible Access Unit consumed. Accordingly, any combination of 100 royalty-eligible Paid Coins, Promotional Coins, and Creator Consumable Credits generates USD $1.00 in Estimated Copyright Royalties.
- Paid Coins consumed for eligible chapter or full-work access generate Paid Access Royalties at the current rate.
- Additional Coins included in a paid package receive the same treatment when Noveltree classifies them as Paid Coins.
- Promotional Coins consumed for eligible chapter or full-work access generate the same Paid Access Royalties.
- Creator Consumable Credits consumed for eligible chapter or full-work access generate the same Paid Access Royalties.
- Test and administrative credits do not generate Paid Access Royalties under the current schedule.
Current source-bucket spending order for eligible chapter and full-work access: Creator Consumable Credits are consumed first, followed by Promotional Coins, then Paid Coins. Each of those three source buckets generates the same USD $0.01 Paid Access Royalty per unit consumed for eligible access.
Promotional Coins may be used for any eligible reader-facing Noveltree feature that accepts Coins, including eligible chapter access, full-work access, and Stickers, unless a different restriction is disclosed when the Promotional Coins are granted. Creator Consumable Credits may be used for eligible chapter and full-work access, but not for Stickers unless Noveltree expressly enables that use.
Publisher- or creator-designated free chapters and free works require no access units and therefore generate no Paid Access Royalty. When a Noveltree-funded promotion uses Promotional Coins to unlock otherwise eligible paid access, those Promotional Coins receive the same royalty treatment as Paid Coins.
Chapter Prices And Full-Work Prices
When chapter pricing is off, the displayed full-work price is the price for full-work access. When chapter pricing is on for a completed work and a positive full-work price is set, that full-work price acts as a cap for the same edition: eligible amounts previously charged for chapters of that edition count toward the cap, and the reader is charged only the lesser of the unpaid cap balance and the price of the remaining paid chapters. Refunded, reversed, disputed, expired, suspended, or revoked chapter access does not count as an active paid entitlement toward that calculation.
A chapter that the publisher or creator marks free grants the complete eligible chapter at zero Coins and does not count as a chapter payment. A preview is a limited excerpt or promotional view and does not itself grant a chapter or full-work purchase entitlement. When chapter pricing is on and no positive full-work cap applies, including for a completed work without one, Noveltree may offer only the currently published, unowned paid chapters at their combined remaining price. That purchase grants those chapter entitlements, not full-work access or future chapters. Full-work access for a chapter-priced work is offered only after the work is marked complete and has a positive full-work cap.
What 0% Platform Cut Means
Noveltree deducts no separate platform commission from the stated Paid Access Royalty Rate.
Ordinary app-store and payment-processing costs do not reduce the current USD $0.01 Paid Access Royalty Rate. Estimated Copyright Royalties are preliminary and non-payable until approved. They may be adjusted, reserved, reversed, offset, or excluded under the Creator Terms for applicable refunds, chargebacks, failed or duplicate transactions, fraud or abuse, technical or reporting errors, rights or compliance issues, required tax treatment, reserves, and offsets.
Eligible Sticker-associated activity is treated separately and may contribute to variable platform-calculated Copyright Royalty formulas. Stickers are not direct payments, and a Sticker's Coin cost, rarity, display treatment, promotional value, or visual presentation does not create a fixed creator entitlement. Noveltree does not deduct a separate platform commission from the eligible Sticker-associated royalty base.
From Estimate To Payout
Estimated Copyright Royalties are what the dashboard shows before final review. They are informational and may change.
Approved Copyright Royalties are amounts Noveltree has reviewed under the Creator Terms.
Scheduled Royalty Payouts are handled through Noveltree's payout process when payout eligibility is complete and no hold, reserve, offset, reversal, sanctions, tax, rights, payment-provider, fraud, or compliance issue applies.
Current Payout Basics
- Default cadence: monthly.
- Current standard payout method: PayPal.
- Current PayPal payout display currency: USD.
- Current PayPal threshold: USD $1.00 in Approved Copyright Royalties allocated to PayPal, before any external payout-provider or currency-conversion fee.
- Noveltree payout fee: none currently.
These basics are subject to payout eligibility, review, payment-provider availability, thresholds, holds, reserves, exceptions, and any approved creator-specific or publisher-specific terms.
Depending on your PayPal account, country, and PayPal's rules, PayPal may make a payout available in a supported local currency or offer PayPal-managed currency conversion. PayPal currency conversion rates, fees, pending-payment rules, country restrictions, and currency restrictions may apply.
Fictiondex Inc. dba Noveltree may approve bank transfer or another supported payout method for a business that completes required business verification, under separate program rules or written terms. Payout eligibility, review, and remittance may be handled manually during private beta.
What Can Change The Amount
- Purchase channel: Apple, Google Play, web checkout, PayPal, Stripe, RevenueCat, or another channel may affect the price of a Coin package or the amount Noveltree receives. Ordinary app-store and payment-processing costs do not reduce the current Paid Access Royalty Rate for royalty-eligible access units.
- Taxes: Required tax treatment or withholding may affect approval or the net payout amount.
- Refunds and chargebacks: Refunded, reversed, disputed, or charged-back activity may be adjusted or excluded.
- Source buckets: Paid Coins, Promotional Coins, and Creator Consumable Credits generate the same Paid Access Royalty when consumed for eligible chapter or full-work access. Test and administrative credits do not.
- Sticker activity: Eligible Sticker activity may contribute to separate variable royalty formulas, but Stickers are not direct payments.
- Fraud, rights, sanctions, tax, or compliance review: Noveltree may pause, reserve, offset, reverse, or deny royalty treatment where needed.
Creator Consumable Credits
If offered, eligible creators may choose to apply a permitted portion of net approved Copyright Royalties to Creator Consumable Credits after Fictiondex Inc. dba Noveltree accepts the election.
A Creator Consumable Credit Election does not reduce the gross fiat or accounting value of Approved Copyright Royalties that may be shown on creator statements or reported on tax slips, information returns, or other reports.
